The idea for SueFest was born in late 2013 after
the sudden passing of an incredible community member
known for her gentle kindness, musical ability and
commitment to the deaf blind community.
Susan Elaine Wallbank-Maher was a local teacher who
spent a lot of her time fundraising for charitable causes.
That is why we are excited to boast that in the festivals first
year we raised nearly $10.000 for continued research for
The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada!

from facebook:

Many people ask what the difference is between “open mic” and “open jam.”
An open jam will typically have a drum kit, musicians will band together and rock out together on stage.
Sometimes bands will entertain you.
An open mic is typically acoustic acts, stand up comedy, slam poetry, etc.
Come out and play some tunes, maybe make people laugh or think a little!
Whatever it is you do, if you’re looking for some stage time, we’ve got it!

Don’t forget!! The final Tuesday of each month is your chance to win a cash prize for your awesomeness!

Hit the Spot: Heavy Brantford at Knights of Columbus

KnotSlip and the crowd rocked out at Heavy Brantford

\m/ (◣_◢) \m/

Saturday was a hot day filled with even hotter music at the first (annual?) Heavy Brantford.

Knights of Columbus was host to a pantheon of epic metal bands who tore it up all day long.
From start to finish, it was a day filled with violently pleasurable music that kept the crowd pumped.

In between sets Wally and his crew of comedy misfits kept the show going with their
hilarious Comedy Car Crash (check them out Tuesdays at club NV!)

no name band performing at Heavy brantford

they have no name yet they must METAL!

It was awesome to see bands, volunteers and fans come together to bring Heavy Brantford to life.
Metal-heads may love to smash each other in the pit, but they also love to help each other out of it.
No man, woman or child was left out of the camaraderie.

Door To Door Human Gore (Brantford)

Door to Door Human Gore live at Heavy Brantford

get the door motherf@#%er. who is it? it’s METAL!

Tributes were the theme of the day.
No Name Band gave it their all (at noon..still amazed) with a number of great covers.
Battery Inc tore it up with their Metallica tributes (who changed up their set-list a bit after hearing No Name Band play an awesome version of Four Horsemen).
Zealots Desire decided to forgo their originals for a sweet tribute set to System of a Down.
Finally, KnotSlip showed us why they’re the greatest Slipknot tribute band around.

Between Zealots Desire and KnotSlip, some frantically fantastic originals slammed upon the crowd.
The Smashing Machine took the music to a decisively darker place, dragging the hardcore out into the light of day,
where we can only assume it received third degree burns from exposure.
Enslave The Masses (with Dusty performing back-to-back drummer duty in both TSM and EtM!) played their deep crawling death metal with a new young singer who belted it out with practiced precision.
Door To Door Human Gore spewed forth some dark and wonderfully nasty metal.  Thick and beefy bass layered upon with the madness of guitar, vocals and drums.
Ending Tyranny
tore through the very fabric of reality with their fast and technical death metal.  Playing new material from their forthcoming release, they sprinkled in a selection of fan-favorites.
A Rebel Few thrashed the crowd like a hooker looking for her money.  Though the sun had by then receded in fear, A Rebel Few proceeded to burn up the stage with their classic metal grooves.

The love of all things heavy was readily apparent today,
there were no sh***y bands, only f@%#ing awesome metal from those who live to rock hard.

Ending Tyranny live at Heavy Brantford

all hail the end of tyranny, bring more METAL!

KnotSlip tied up in the night in a noose of eternal glory.
At first it seemed that there was too much awesome for the stage to handle, with a couple of power issues causing a bit of mayhem.
After a couple tweaks, KnotSlip proceeded to give a stellar performance.
KnotSlip doesn’t just cover Slipknot, they become Slipknot.
Within their full replica costumes stand a crew of metal maniacs who present their love of the band in vivid technicolor.

KnotSlip live at Heavy Brantford

so much power, METAL power!

Just when it seemed the power issues were a thing of the past, it happened again.
This time the power issue led to a once in a lifetime audience participation event:

Power Outages can’t stop KnotSlip!

from Paul Webster:

So last night, were playing our set, right;
So the power keeps going out
(not enough sources to support our 20+ plugs and yes, it’s noted lol).
The one time, during Before I Forget, the power cut out
and all the audience could hear was the drums at half volume.
Well the crowd kept on singing it (the chorus, thankfully)
for about 20 seconds+ until it was switched back on.
We all kept playing the parts and when the power came back,
the music did too, right on cue (obviously).
Was quite epic, something I don’t think I’ll forget, ever.

KnotSlip covering SlipKnot live at Heavy Brantford

can’t stop the METAL!

from facebook:

Where to start… so many people to thank for yesterdays amazing event!!
First all the people who came together and made it happen,
people who worked the door, the bbq, the stage, the side stage, the clean up..
just so many to try and list.
The bands came out an a hot ass day and gave it their all,
every hour another and came out and rocked it!!
From opening act No Name Band to Knotslip this day was impressive to say the least!!
I personally want to thank all the guys in the band …
you guys took it to a whole new level last night and I am proud as hell to be a part of it!!
#3

An unforgettable foray into the soul of local metal.
An awesome job-well-done to DoubleBooked Productions, all the bands, all the comedians, all the volunteers,
and all of the fans who brought out the best in each other for a kicka$$ day of heavy metal in the sun!
